Itinerary
Day 1: Nagarkot Sunrise and Hike to Changu Narayan Temple
Trekking Time: 3 to 4 hours, 15.6 km. A pre-dawn drive of about 1.5 hours (32 km) climbs out of the Kathmandu Valley to Nagarkot, a hill station at 2,175m on the valley rim, in time to watch the sun rise over a distant line of Himalayan peaks including Everest, Langtang and Ganesh Himal on a clear day. After breakfast at the viewpoint, the trail descends through terraced fields, pine forest and small Newar farming villages on its way to Changu Narayan, a temple complex dating to at least the 4th century and among the oldest in the Kathmandu Valley, known for its stone and metal sculpture and its carved roof struts. The tour ends with a drive back to Kathmandu, with time built in for an optional stop in nearby Bhaktapur.
