From Kande, you immediately begin trekking up a steep stone staircase for 2 km to Australian Camp (2,060 m). After taking in the panoramic views of the Annapurna range, the trail descends gently into the pine-scented village of Pothana (1,890 m) before climbing once more through a lush rhododendron forest to reach the ridge-line village of Deurali.

Leaving Deurali, you diverge from the main Annapurna sanctuary trail and enter a quiet, pristine wilderness. The trail leads you on a long, single-track hike through a dense, mossy jungle canopy of oak and maple trees. You will trek roughly 6 km to 7 km to reach Forest Camp (2,550m}) for lunch. From Forest Camp, the trail gets noticeably steeper as you push another 5 km up the ridge, watching the trees begin to thin out just as you arrive at Low Camp.

The final 4 km track follows a narrow grass-and-shrub spine. Due to the thinner air, your pace will slow down, bringing you to High Camp by early afternoon with plenty of time to rest, acclimatize, and witness the sunset over Mt. Machapuchare.

-
Elevation Loss: -2,750 m (Base Camp all the way down to Siding)
-

This is the most physically demanding day of the trek. You will wake up at 4:00 AM and use headlamps to climb 4 km up a steep, narrow, rocky ridge to the Upper Viewpoint (4,200 m). Fit trekkers can push another 1.5 km over rugged alpine moraine to the actual Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m) to watch the sunrise strike the face of Fishtail. After taking in the views, you retrace your steps 5.5 km back to High Camp for lunch. From High Camp, you pack your gear and make a sharp, continuous 9 km descent through changing ecosystems, dropping rapidly into the traditional Gurung village of Siding.
